Senior Center to Operate Stand at Strawberry Festival

From team reports

Fresh strawberries from Scott’s Farm will star in several of the strawberry-themed goodies the senior center will offer for sale during the annual festival.

Scott’s strawberries are ripe, so it must be time for the annual Wayne Scott strawberry festival in Unicoi. The festival is scheduled for Saturday, May 21, from 10 am to 5 pm

As in the past, the Clinchfield Senior Center booth will be located next to Scott’s Strawberry booth, where reps will have access to berries for their fresh strawberry jams.

Featured products for this year’s festival will be strawberry sundaes made with Mayfield vanilla ice cream topped with sliced and sweetened fresh fruit, strawberry shortcake, strawberry cupcakes with fresh strawberries and homemade chocolate sauce. If there’s ever a time to indulge, this is it! Strawberry season is so short that eating fresh fruit just once a day is not enough for true strawberry lovers. The booth will also offer bottled water.

The senior center is open to anyone over the age of 50. Annual membership is $25 and there are a variety of activities for any age. The center also offers billiards, ping pong, craft room, library, card games, puzzles and the exercise room.

The center offers craft classes every Monday of the month with Mary K Brown from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm and tai-chi classes with Bob Hechemovich every Friday of the month from 11:30 am to 12:30 pm The Book Club will meet on May at noon. Stop by the center and get the monthly activity calendar.

Check out the following special programs scheduled for May.

Monday, May 23, 10 am – Gina Clark from Frontier Health will teach a class on “Older Persons Health”.

Thursday, May 25, 10am – Bob Sproles from United Healthcare will be here for “Bingo with Bob”. All are winners, and we will have several door prizes to be given out.

Note to CSAC members: The center will need volunteers for festival activities. An event of this nature involves many different tasks and requires many hands. Potential volunteers should call the office to see what would be a good fit. For more information or to ask questions about activities, call the senior center at (423) 743-5111 or visit 220 Union St., Erwin. Be sure to follow the Clinchfield Senior Adult Center on their Facebook page for upcoming events and special announcements.
