architecture.lbhomeliving.com

Discover Cal State Long Beach’s newly expanded Carolyn Campagna Kleefeld Museum of Contemporary Art. A free tour, part of Long Beach Architecture Week, highlights the recent conservation of a Millard Sheets mosaic saved from the wrecking ball by a Museum-led preservation project supported by the Farmers and Merchants Bank of Long Beach. The original work, built from 1975 to 1977, was installed inside the Lakewood Home Savings Bank and has been relocated and conserved by RLA Conservation in consultation with original Millard Sheets studio member Brian Worley. Made up of more than 100,000 smalti glass tesserae tiles, the work weighs over two tons and had to be cut into ten segments to be dismantled and reinstalled at the site near the entrance to the Museum’s Horn Center. The architecture.lbhomeliving.com website contains programming information.
