Playing the best of the best

Cambridge resident and pickleball player Jackie Bradshaw will compete with approximately 3,000 of the world’s best professional and amateur pickleball players in Naples, Florida, next week.

Bradshaw will compete in women’s singles, women’s doubles and mixed doubles at the 2022 Minto US Open Pickleball Championships at East Naples Community Park April 24-30.

Her women’s doubles partner is 17-year-old Ava Pisaclita of Louisville, Kentucky and her mixed doubles partner is Mike Cheeseman of Illinois. She’s played with each one.

The tournament is described as one of the most prestigious events in pickleball and has a purse of $100,000. It will be played on 64 courts and should attract 25,000 spectators.

The 24-year-old played tennis during high school and while attending Bethany College in Kansas. After two shoulder surgeries, she started looking for something competitive to play and decided to head to the pickleball court opening in Mt Caramel, Illinois, where she was living at the time.
